El Club Natación San Fernando ha conseguido otro gran éxito al lograr una nueva medalla en un Campeonato de España y un nuevo récord de Andalucía. El Campeonato estuvo organizado por Club Natació Barcelona y la Federación y se celebró en la piscina barcelonesa Nova de L’Escullera.
Las condiciones que imponía la Federación Española a Irene para participar en categoría senior en este Campeonato era estar entre las diez mejores marcas de España tras la celebración de los campeonatos autonómicos en piscina de 25 metros. En cuanto a la categoría infantil, para poder participar sus marcas debían estar entre las veinte mejores españolas. Yerai fue Subcampeón de Andalucía en la distancia de dos kilómetros.
La nadadora isleña, Irene Peinado Morales, consiguió la Medalla de Bronce en categoría senior en la prueba de 5.000 libre en piscina de 50 metros, con un crono de 1:02:42.13 que es su mejor marca personal. Irene mejoraba notablemente su participación con respecto al año pasado en Madrid y ejecutó en Barcelona a la perfección el guion propuesto por su entrenador, Pachi Arce, para la prueba. Irene comenzó con un ritmo bastante fuerte marcando un minuto y trece segundos cada cien metros durante los primeros mil doscientos metros y a un minuto y catorce segundos hasta los dos mil trescientos metros, no peligrando la tercera posición en ningún momento.
El deportista isleño, Yerai Amado Pérez, uno de los triunfadores del pasado infantil de invierno, finalizó en quinta posición infantil en la prueba de 3.000 libre con una marca de 35:35.08 que es el nuevo récord de Andalucía de su edad en piscina de 50 metros, todo un éxito para el isleño. Hay que tener en cuenta que Yerai, nacido en 2010, nadó con deportistas un año mayor que él y que solamente por delante de él quedó un nadador de 2010 que lo superó, después de tres kilómetros, por cuarenta centésimas. Habrá que esperar a la temporada que viene donde será infantil de segundo año.
Una participación estelar con la que Pachi y el equipo técnico estaban muy contentos por las marcas obtenidas por los dos deportistas, por el pódium español de Irene y por el récord de Yerai y su quinta plaza.
